Zehra Nawab, a director and actor, is currently a fellow at the Genre Film Lab, developing her debut feature film ‘Love Me There’, which she is pitching at the Frontieres Market at Fantasia Festival 2024, Montreal. She directs the documentary “Niswan Nama,” produced by two-time Oscar recipient Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (SOC) Films. Notable for her women-centered storytelling, Zehra co-directed the Canada Council Grant-funded short film “Farzana.” Her direction work extends to documentaries like “Mad Mad Mad Mad Filmy World,” part of the permanent collection at Contemporary Art Gallery in Vancouver and “Home Truths,” showcased at the Venice Biennale, earning her the National AGAHI Award for Journalism in Culture. Zehra is also a recipient of the Pat The Dog Theatre microgrant in 2024. With training in both direction and acting, she brings a unique perspective to her projects. Her acting debut was in the Pakistani film “Khel Khel Mein” (2022), followed by lead roles in the Canadian short film “Spin Over” and the theater play “Transit” at Toronto Fringe in 2023. She takes on the protagonist’s role in the upcoming television series “Second Chance Hina.” Zehra’s expertise in Indian Classical dance adds a cultural dimension to her creative palette.
