Shaista Roshan is an Indo-Arab filmmaker raised in the UAE and finds beauty in hybrids and the unique perspective it allows. She believes it’s her lowkey superpower!
She was recently selected for the prestigious Canadian Film Centres’ 2024 Producer Lab and currently works in Toronto as an independent creative producer where she has worked alongside internationally renowned creatives and produced and directed several short films that are currently making festival rounds within Canada, USA & the UK.
Prior to her move to Canada two years ago, she spent a decade producing and working production within the unscripted and LIVE TV space in the Middle East and the United States. She produced and worked on ‘Sabah Al Dar’, ‘Andama Yatil Massa’ (ADTV), ‘The Doctors’ & ‘The Doctor Phil Show’ (CBS) before shifting her focus on narrative storytelling.
Over the past year Shaista has been assisting leading showrunners and directors and learned best practices on the sets of ‘Tokyo Vice’ (HBO Max), ‘Brilliant Minds’ (NBC) and Witch Mountain’s pilot’ (Disney+). She now aims to tread a path of weaving her own narrative tapestry and is in post of a short film and in early development stages of a series & a co-production feature.
Her slate is reflective of her nomadic production experiences around the globe and aims to champion stories that hone a hybrid sense that blend across different cultures and its peoples.
